Galbi (Korean Beef Short Ribs)

The short ribs are marinated in a balanced sweet and savory sauce. They are caramelize, tender and flavorful. it’s served sliced off the bone and rolled into lettuce leaves and served with rice.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 lb LA beef short ribs
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup mirin
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 Korean Pear
  • 1 onion
  • 5 gloves garlic
  • 1 tsp grated ginger juice
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • green onion, for garnish (optional)
  • toasted sesame seed, for garnish (optional)
  • lettuce leaves, for serving
  • rice, for serving

Directions

  • Rinse the ribs a couple times to wash off bone dust and drain well.
  • Cut the pear and onion in quarters. Blend the pear, onion and garlic until smooth juice.
  • Add the blend juice, soy sauce, mirin, honey, ginger juice, sesame oil and black pepper into the marinate container. Mix all marinade ingredients well.
  • Add the ribs into the marinate container. Marinate the ribs overnight.
  • Preheat the pan over medium-high heat. Remove short ribs from marinade and wipe off excess. Pan sear the ribs for 3 minutes on each side until caramelized. Feel free to grill the short ribs.
  • Transfer to a serving platter add chopped green onions and toasted sesame seed for garnish. Serve with rice, lettuce leaves and kimchi!
